World Champion Squirrel Cook-off Sept. 13 in Springdale

You read that right: squirrel. The 14th annual World Champion Squirrel Cook-off takes place Sept. 13 at the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center in Springdale. Forty teams of participants will take part in a judged competition while serving samples of wild game for the general public. If you’re lucky, you might get a taste of other unusual fare, such as alligator.

More to look forward to the day of are the World Champion Squirrel-Skinning Contest, the World’s Hottest Squirrel-Eating Contest, and tastes from event sponsors, such as Ozark Beer Company, whose Squirrelbrau 2025 will be available on tap and in six-packs. Other squirrel-themed merchandise will be in high demand, including festival T-shirts and the World Champion Squirrel Cook-off Cookbook produced by Townsend Spice.

Entry to the festival is free. Click here to read more about what to expect from the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, and visit the festival’s Facebook page for more information.
