Southern food and culture writer John T. Edge will make an appearance at Little Rock’s Clinton Presidential Center on Nov. 3 to promote his memoir, House of Smoke: A Southerner Goes Searching for Home. Known as a James Beard Award-winning writer, co-founder and former director of the Southern Foodways Alliance, and, most recently, host of ESPN’s docuseries TrueSouth, Edge’s voice has been a notable addition to conversations around food in the South for more than two decades.

Released in September, House of Smoke goes deeper into Edge’s personal story than his previous writing. A description from the book’s publisher, Penguin Random House, reads:
The author of The Potlikker Papers: A Food History of the Modern South tells his own story this time. Of growing up in a house wrecked by violence and a South haunted by racism. And of how his search for home led him to find escape and belonging through food. Until he realizes that gathering at the table is just one small step toward reckoning.

Clinton Presidential Center Presents: House of Smoke with John T. Edge begins at 6 p.m. and is free to attend. Books will be available for purchase at the event, and Edge will sign copies following a moderated conversation. Click here to register.
